Beau Séjour: Bed and Breakfast / Guest House Bed and Breakfast situated close to Saint Emilion and Bordeaux
Dragos M  27 décembrer 2011 via Tripadvisor This was our third time in five years that we’ve been at Beau Séjour; on this occasion we stayed in the “gîte” together with our 2 small children.  We were glad to see that nothing much changed. Maureen and Jon set the quality bar high and kept it there throughout the years; our stay was perfect - as usual. The “gîte” was ideal for our family; it was spacious enough to accommodate all of us – our two children have each had their own separate room, while we had ours. Maureen and Jon made an exception and brought us dinner every other night we stayed there; one night we even had dinner together with Maureen and Jon, whose company (and British humour…) we very much enjoyed until after midnight.on recommended us a series of wines that proved to be very good (those bottles of Gessan we bought are long over…). Maureen suggested several other places worth a visit that we were not able to see on the previous two instances we’ve been at Beau Séjour. I must say we visited probably more than 100 rural houses in the latest 10 years; Beau Séjour is by far our favorite. We’ll be back for sure in the summer of 2012. Nick L 20 décembre 2011 via Tripadvisor Maureen and Jon receive their guests in the Beau Séjour as if they were friends (many are return visitors) or friends of friends. Their house is large, and the rooms are comfortable and beautifully furnished. They know and love the Bordeaux region, and its wines and food. They are eager to share their knowledge with their guests. They offer a generous sample of the foods and wines they have discovered at their wonderful suppers. These suppers give real meaning to the term ‘table d’hôte.’ Maureen and Jon eat with their guests; everyone is seated at the same table. (Special allowance is made for people with a specific diet: my brother and his wife, who brought us to the Beau Séjour, are vegetarians). The conversation is general. English speakers and French speakers find a common language and join in the conversation. At this table we spoke with people we might not have spoken with in a hotel. Jon and Maureen have created a wonderful destination for a holiday. My congratulations and thanks to them. Katy B 18 décembre 2011 via Tripadvisor We had a marvelous stay at Beau Sejour. Maureen and Jon were brilliant hosts, and had excellent knowledge of the surrounding area making sure that we made the most of our short stay with them. They have restored the guest house making it feel warm, inviting and cosy. As for the breakfast... AMAZING!! I would definitely recommend Beau Sejour to anyone, whether it be a short or long stay. patrickmieke  18 décembre 2011 via Tripadvisor  Mieke and I wrote this on september 3rd 2007: The trick is simple : spot your favourite area in beautiful France, and look for English hosts! In Beau-séjour we found the magic mix of British hospitality and the enchanting area of St Emilion. The acceuil is chaleureux ('would you like a cup of tea?'), the room is four times the size of an average hotelroom, the food is as deliious as the wines, but all that faints in comparaison to the warm welcome by Maureen and Jon. We arrived as royal guests (could you mail if there is anyting Mieke or you don't eat? ...), and left as friends. We'll tell all our friends, and will come back, to these two wonderful people, that will do anyting to have your stay as pleasant as possible. We went back in july 2011: Beauséjour revisited.  Nothing changed, but like a great Bordeaux, they get even better every year.  Six stars, we would be happy to be able to give this score! Gillwright  17 décembre 2011 via Tripadvisor We returned in May for another wonderful visit to this most unique charming french house and a very warm welcome from Maureen and Jon, who we now consider to be our friends. It is a privilage to stay in such a beautifully restored house with a truly relaxing atmosphere. Maureen's cooking using locally sourced produce is a real treat, we had three very convivial evenings sharing food, wine and chatter with Jon, Maureen and their other guests - unforgettable! We consider ourselves to be quite discerning guests and can honestly say this is the best accomodation we have enjoyed in all our travels.  We have already booked a return visit for 2012 RHHHtravels  17 décembre 2011 via Tripadvisor  My wife and I found this place via internet and it is everything they say it is and more. It is settled in a quaint french village. The place is stunning and "spot on" in British terms. Jon and Maurine are excellent hosts making you feel very welcome and at home. We enjoyed their humor as they both gave us their "most see" places in the area. Don't miss the meals they provide. You will make great friends while at the same time enjoying a gastronomical feast. LBesse  15 décembre 2011 via Tripadvisor This was the first guest house I have stayed in. I had my reservations as I like and value my own space. The Beau Sejour was very welcoming with such a warm ambiance we were happy to join the other guests for dinner, which was a real home cooked treat. The cheese biscuits are TO DIE FOR. I am Lucky to have obtained the recipe from the lady of the house but you'll have to go there and get it yourself!! PascalS22  6 décembre 2011 via Tripadvisor Beau Sejour deserves all the accolades that it has received and so much more. We stayed here with a group of friends over four days and all fell in love with the beautiful couple that run this stunning French guest house. They have clearly thought of every detail to provide a service that does so much more than tick all the boxes. The house itself is rustic with well thought of touches everywhere. Its absolutely huge and we felt very free roaming around even though it was a full house. Our room was the largest I have ever stayed at and had all the comforts that you would expect as well as being so clean and well maintained. We arrived at the house rather late (11pm) and were lead into the spacious dinning room where Maureen’s home made pate, crusty bread (toasted by Jon), local cheeses and a few bottles of wine had been laid out for us. The breakfasts were delicious and varied from day to day, including smoked salmon, hams, local cheeses and various cooked fruits and muesli. Who knew that prunes could taste so good! Maureen’s dinner (by request) was incredible. It was such a treat to be able to experience something so much more intimate than only dining in restaurants during our visit. A special thanks to Maureen for catering for one of our friends who was on a very strict diet. Her cuisine was sumptuous and authentic making dinner at Maureen’s a ‘Must do’. Their knowledge of the area meant that they were able to provide us with every option of things to do, see and eat. Whether you are planning a short trip or a longer stay I’m sure they will be able to assist you in designing the perfect itinerary. Maureen and Jon made every aspect of their service seem seamless. Nothing was ever too much trouble and the quality was faultless. This couple are not only warm and inviting, making our stay unforgettable but are true professionals in every way. A massive thank you from Brendan, Pascal, Dan, Linsey, Jackie and Lorelle. maxBath  1 décembre 2011 via Tripadvisor We spent a few days in the self catering cottage this October. Jon and Maureen are very congenial hosts; filling breakfast trays, good advice on local vineyards (tasting and buying) and lots of valuable local knowledge re markets, cultural sites etc. The cottage is an ideal mixture of self sufficiency and BnB hospitality and is very comfortable and warm even in late autumn. Y P  29 novembre 2011 via Tripadvisor We stayed here for two nights while in the Bordeaux wine country and had an absolutely wonderful time. The hospitality of both Maureen and Jon was well beyond what we expected. We had stayed at another bed and breakfast during our trip closer to Bordeaux and the experience was like night and day. Highly recommended and will definitely stay here when we come back to Bordeaux in the future. Thank you so much for a wonderful vacation! chris1965_9  14 novembre 2011 via Tripadvisor We visited for five nights to Jon and Maureens property, in the lovely self-contained cottage. After a day of travelling we were met with friendly smiles and shown to our accommodation. Welcoming bottles of wine and a stocked fridge, then, the following morning, a greeting and more provisions. This was an everyday occurance. The cottage is equipped with everything you need, a lovely outside terrace looking over the gardens, great for meals or a drink. Jon and Maureen would be the most hospitable people you could hope to meet on your travels, we arrived as guests and left as friends. Sion O 6 novembre 2011 via Tripadvisor We spent four days in the self catering cottage with a tasty breakfast delivered on a tray each morning. The fridge was also generously stocked with breakfast food!  This arrangement was an ideal combination of independent holiday making without missing out on the warm hospitality of this superb B and B. The standard of the accommodation was excellent, the breakfasts generous and tasty. But best of all was the house itself and its location. The warmth and kindness of Maureen and Jon makes Beau Sejour and very special place to stay and we will definitely return. Bryan_Aldridge 6 novembre via Tripadvisor    Absolutely delightful. Beautiful old structure that's been everything over the last few hundred years. Maureen and Jon, transplanted Englishmen, were gracious and generous hosts. We had dinner - and a truly special dinner it was. You'll have a really enjoyable stay here. Sidney B 5 novembre via Tripadvisor  We were three couples who came to stay at Beau Sejour for a truly delightful experience. The owners, Jon and Maureen were so welcoming, fascinating and informative. They served us the most delicious 5 course gourmet dinner, often organic, always completely homemade, and absolutely wonderful. The rooms were large, charming, and diverse, which was so fun for us.  It is well located in this beautiful wine area, and we could not have had a better experience. I could not recommend it more highly. carl F 19 octobre 2011 via Tripadvisor Wow !! What a wonderful 2 nite stay at a lovely, charming B&B, and, the owners Maureen and Jon were great with directions, and miscellaneous info about the area . A great home with a charming host and hostess serving a great breakfast and dinner. The dinner was outstanding, the wine was bountiful, the guests who also stayed there were delightful. My wife and I will stay again at this great home and would strongly recommend Beau Sejour to everyone. Being just 15 minutes away from St. Emilion, we went in there for dinner and to visit the numerous wineries in the area. Thank you Maureen and Jon !!! Moonspinner 18 octobre 2011 via Tripadvisor Beau Sejour is the epitome of B&B's. The hosts' warm welcome makes you feel immediately at home. The rooms, while outfitted with modern fixtures, are decorated to harmonize with the age of the house, blending the best of both worlds. The house itself is set in a large, private garden in a quiet, tiny village surrounded by vineyards. Maureen's "table d'hote" was the crowning touch to a beautiful stay. We started dinner at 8pm and at midnight we were still there, basking in the glow of gourmet food and wine and camaraderie. Wendy 1602 16 octobre 2011 via Tripadvisor My husband, 12 year old son and I stayed at Beau Sejour en route to Paris. The property is stunning and Maureen and Jon are wonderful hosts. They helped us to enjoy this beautiful region and went 'beyond the call of duty' to assist in our travel plans. The extra touches - Maureen's fabulous cooking and Jon's advice about the local top drops and restaurants made for a relaxing and wonderful stay. They were also very welcoming of our son, who rates the b&b as the best place we have stayed on this trip! Highly recommended and we hope to return. Wendy, Simon, Jack Sydney, Australia LeslieSanDiego 11 octobre 2011 via Tripadvisor Maureen and Jon are such superb hosts, we felt like we stay with extended family!!! Their house has been a labor of love for them for 5 years and it is totally delightful, the rooms are exquisite, and charming. We were fortunate enough to be there for a dinner with our hosts that rivaled any we had the whole trip. I couldn't rx. this place highly enough, and I am a Picky Virgo!!! Leslie & Tim MagieML 7 octobre 2011 via Tripadvisor My husband and I traveled to France for two weeks of touring, gourmet delights, and relaxation. We were welcomed at Beau-Sejour with open arms by Maureen and Jon, the proprietors of this lovely B & B. Our five days at Beau-Sejour met all our expectations and then some. The setting is like a home away from home. We toured during the day and returned to Beau-Sejour in the evening for rest and revitalization. Maureen prepared two dinners for us; she is a superb chef and even shared her recipes. Jon shared his knowledge of wines and the region and charmed us with his humor. As an added bonus, we met other guests who added to the depth of our experience in the wine region. We have traveled extensively and can happily report that Beau-Sejour offers a beautiful and comfortable setting, lovely hosts, and a memorable experience. SusanD 6 octobre 2011 via Tripadvisor  Beau-Sejour was the first of our stays in France and the best possible way to begin our trip. Maureen and Jon, the owners of Beau-Sejour are a wonderful couple. They enjoy sharing their beautiful home with their guests and immediately make you feel welcome. Maureen is a marvelous cook who knows much about both French cuisine and wines. We were very fortunate to have shared two dinners with them. Of all the meals we ate while in France, the dinners we ate at Beau-Sejour were by far the best. Maureen and Jon also are very good at sharing information about the region and made several very good recommendations about where to go and what to see while touring Bourdeaux. Our room was very spacious, bright, and comfortable. Beau-Sejour is not to be missed on your journey through the wine country cocomania 4 octobre 2011 via Tripadvisor My husband and I were visiting the Bordeaux region and decided to stay at a B & B. We were always a little wary about B & B's but thought we'd give it a go since we were in France. That was probably the best holiday decision we've made. Maureen and Jon are the nicest hosts and made the whole stay so memorable. Maureen is an excellent cook and Jon is an excellent wine pourer. Together, they made our stay memorable. Trying to find the place was an exercise in itself because the GPS took us to the middle of a paddock so probably it is better to follow Maureen's instruction because it is spot on. Just look for the church and the memorial. It is a very small town so you won't miss the landmarks. Once there you must visit St Emillion, such a lovely town. Barcatko 3 octobre 2011 via Tripadvisor  We absolutelly enjoyed our stay with Maureen and Jon in their lovely house. It has a lot of character and charm. The village is very quite, so you can enjoy rest and atmosphere of French countryside. One night we enjoyed Maureens great cooking skills as well as tasted lovely wines of Jons selection. This place is totally different as you feel what amount of effort do both, Maureen and Jon put into making their guests happy. Both Maureen and Jon are extremely helpful in recommending places to visit, places for wine tasting, restaurants or any practical information you are looking for. Do not miss this place on your travel around Bordeaux region. Barigadgi 2 octobre 2011 via Tripadvisor Spent two nights here in late September. Maureen and Jon make everyone so welcome, and their hospitality and local knowledge are second to non.  If you get the chance, sign up for one of their "menu gastronomique" dinners, which in our case included aperitifs, fabulous food from Maureen, superb local cheese, and great wines served by Jon.  Naujan et Postiac is within the "Entre Deux Mers" region, and while the village itself is a little off the beaten track it is very centrally located for trips to Bordeaux itself, St. Emillion, Sauternes etc.. jcw40 25 septembre  2011 via Tripadvisor Jon and Maureen make every effort to see that their guests are comfortable in every way. One seldom finds a chambre D'hotes experience this perfect. The home is spacious, reflecting several years of careful restoration and improvements that are delightfully welcoming. You will not want to miss one of the enjoyable evening dinners prepared and served by Jon and Maureen certain evenings of the week. We enjoyed a beautiful international evening starting on the terrace and ending around the large dining table with all of the other guests. We can attest that while Beau-Sejour may seem out of the way, you will have no regrets as you will be rewarded with a very relaxing yet exhilllerating country stay. Seasoned travelers know the "lift" you have when you find a wonderful place to stay with top hospitality. You will definitely find this at Beau-Sejour with Jon and Maureen. We will definitely be back. acarnley 23 septembre 2011 via Tripadvisor  Excellent!! We stayed at Beau-Sejour from 7th to 14 September 2011 and enjoyed every minute. Maureen and Jon were attentive hosts; especially welcome was the daily apperitif, on the terrace. It is a beautiful house with rooms full of character and charm, and they have thought of every minute detail to make your holiday special. The local area is ideal for driving, with very little traffic and the small towns along the roads add to the beauty. Maureen and Jon obviously love the area and make time to help with directions to places of interest. We did not want to leave and would love to return. JanetFtMyersFL 16 septembre 2011 via Tripadvisor It's hard to add any more praises to Beau Sejour's previous reviews. It's all true. Even though you know Jon and Maureen have warmed and charmed everyone before you, you believe it is just for you. They are so genuine, and genuinely proud of what they have accomplished with their labor of love. As many times as they must have done it, they are still enthused to tell you how it all came to be. We were 3 couples together, and by lot, we got the smallest room in the house--generous by my standards, stone-walled lovely, spotless modern bathroom, all I could want. We six also enjoyed the spectacular evening dinner along with 4 other guests, prepared by Maureen, served by Jon--exceptional food, abundant good wine, spirited conversation. A delightful evening. Just the kind of break one needs from a hectic vacation. It is a little out of the way, both good and bad, depending where you want to go on the tiny roads, but worth it. Maureen and Jon, if you are reading, Thank you for a lovely time. dreamtraveler4 14 septembre 2011 via Tripadvisor  This is a creme de la creme chambre D'hotes experience. The chateaux is lovely and yet very comfortable. The rooms are spacious, well appointed, and spotlessly clean. The beds and bathrooms are very modern and comfortable. But the best part of our trip was the fabulous friendliness of the host and hostess. They went far out of their way to help us plan travel experiences near them, discuss the culture here, and even helped us when a medical emergency happened to us. They are also gourmet cooks and the breakfast fare and the evening meals were outstanding! We would enthusiastically recommend this location to all thse who appreciate beauty, friendship, and a wonderful French experience. Astuce pour la chambre : I don't think you can go wrong. They vary by 10 or so euros based on size, but all are lovely. Snorkleboy00820 6 septembre 2011 via Tripadvisor  In a word...fantastique! We stayed in Chambres Rouges on our first night in France, en route to Aquitaine from Paris, and had a wonderful time. Jon and Maureen are charming, hard-working hosts, and along with 8 other guests, all English-speaking, we had a marvelous 5-course dinner that included many bottles of wine, and a splendid breakfast, thanks to Maureen's culinary skills and Jon's excellent service as sommelier. We only had one night - but it was wonderful and I hope to pass by again one day.  GordsRobinson 5 septembre 2011 via Tripadvisor  Beau-Sejour was without exception our favourite accomodation during our trip across this region. Jon & Maureen were amazing hosts and if you stay there you have to sample Maureen's cooking, by far the best food and wine experience of our entire trip. The accomodation was tasteful, very comfortable and has been restored with the passion Maureen and Jon have for the area.... excellently situated to explore Bordeaux and St Emilion region and an hour from the beach and Dunes at Arcachon (beware of the traffic and take Mareens advice to avoid, I wish we had) We were made to feel welcome from arrival to our departure, lots of great advice on what to do and what to avoid, with our trip to the Chateau Minvielle next door being a great introduction to the art of wine making in the area. We will be going back next year and in the meantime will sing their praises from the roof tops.... Thank you Maureen and Jon for you generous hospitality, your wonderful cuisine and for sharing your beautiful home with us... we will be in touch so see you next year. Astuce pour la chambre : All the rooms here are great but the garden room offers more privacy SamBayley 26 août 2011 via Tripadvisor We arrived at Beau Sejour with some expectations, having read the many positive reviews online. I'm very pleased to say that this chambres d'hotes is indeed something special. We stayed for a whole week, longer than most guests, but could have stayed for ages! We were greeted with a warm welcome and cold wine after a stressful day of travelling, and were shown to our huge room (Chambre Rouge). In fact, every day, free rose and white wine, and tea and biscuits are available in late afternoon to refresh guests after the sometimes extreme Bordeaux weather. Breakfasts were generous and made more enjoyable by the fact there were always other guests at the table to discuss the day's plans with. Local cheeses, cooked meats, yoghurts, toast and homemade jam was on offer, as well as some treats like Maureen's scones and cakes. We also ate at Beau Sejour twice in the evenings (including once from the gastronomique menu). Both meals were absolutely delicious and great value for money, especially as Jon was always on hand to top up your wine glass with a very local Chateau. On the evenings Maureen was not cooking, she had plenty of advice about good places to drive to, and we didn't have a bad (or poor-value) meal. This friendly and useful advice extended to itineraries for the daytime, and Maureen was again happy to make reservations for us. The whole place had a friendly atmosphere and it was great to sit on the terrace with other guests, of many different nationalities, and soak up the sunshine. The village is relatively secluded and therefore nice and quiet, but the town of St Emillion is only 15 minutes' drive away, and Bordeaux can be reached in 40 minutes. If you're visiting the area - and you can get a room here - don't miss out! detoprod 20 août2011 via Tripadvisor Expatriates from Great Britain, Maureen and Jon have poured their lives and savings into turning Beau-Sejour, sited at the edge of famous vineyards, into a refuge from the daily rush. They've retained the English habit of afternoon tea that includes cookies, coffee, tea or two local wines. Our choices were vin blanc or rose. Tea brings together their guests who come from varied countries. In the best B&B tradition, Maureen and Jon serve a hearty breakfast (included in the price) that includes breakfast meats, local cheeses, breads, biscuits, jams, jellies, coffee, teas and French bread toast...mountains of toast prepared by Jon with a dedication I've rarely seen. Like many B&B's, Beau-Sejour's accommodations started out as something else...usually barns or other outbuildings...and made their way slowly to housing humans instead of animals. Our spacious and beautifully decorated bedroom was once the local bakery. The other four large rooms have their own histories, probably related to storing hay and the like. Our bathroom was completely modern, comfortably large and spotless. Every amenity was available including a small pack of Kleenex, something we had yet to see in France. If given enough notice, they will prepare an evening meal for guests that includes hors d'oeuvres, salad, main course, dessert and appropriate wines. Maureen is extremely gifted in the kitchen and came up with a frozen, blended tomato appetizer, salmon, rice pilaf, a little cheese souffle with a red pepper sauce and a chocolate/expresso ice cream dessert. The morning we had to leave came too soon. Jon helped load our car (really appreciated) while Maureen just stood by and wrung her hands in despair. We felt a bonding with them in such a short time and tried to memorialize the event with the usual photos. Jon, forever camera shy, insisted on standing behind the camera and so our memories are forever captured with him only in our thoughts. If you are looking for a B&B with all the above amenities and a friendly atmosphere, look no further. Just book Beau-Sejour. priti m 16 août 2011 via Tripadvisor We stayed at Beau Sejour as we attending a frinds wedding being held nearby. Maureen and Jon couldn't have been more helpful and made us feel so welcome in their wonderful home. Although we arrived quite late in the evening, Jon was there to welcome us and make us comfortable. Our room was beautiful, large, airy and spotless. The breakfast was plentiful with an abundant suppy of warm toast and fabulous home made jams and marmalades. A lovely touch was an afternoon treat of wine and a cake or biscuits in the salon. We were given very helpful directions and local knowledge to make our stay so much easier. Hannah4097 14 août 2011 via Tripadvisor Everything is perfect!  With excellent food and excellent service and we will definitely go back again! Sharon P 12 août 2011 via Tripadvisor After a long drive south through Frances beautiful west coast, we found our way directly to the tiny hamlet of Naujan et Pastiac, thanks to Maureen and Jon's emailed instructions. They were both there to welcome us and show us through the house. It was hot outside, but the first thing we noticed was how cool the inside was, and of course the spectacular stone work and staircase. The rooms are big and airy, and everything so comfortable and private. The rooms are also positioned in such a way that no-one feels "walked past" all the time. We spent three nights here, and would have loved to stay longer in order to see more of the area. St Emilion is lovely and the wines are divine (and very reasonable!!!). I would highly recommend taking part in Maureen and Jon's dinner party which is a real French affair going long into the night. They are both so engaging and teach you a lot about food and wine, especially around the area. Maureen is also so helpful at providing maps and local tourist information you might need. Thank you again M & J, I will certainly be back in France for an extended stay and although Lyon stole my heart, the Bordeaux region took quite a chunk of it as well. I shall be booking into Beau Sejour and look forward to wine at 4. Ameelia 11 août 2011 via Tripadvisor What a wonderful stay my husband and I had at this beautiful chambre d'hote! We arrived for 2 nights and stayed the whole week. So many things to do and our hosts were so helpful and knowledgeable about the region. Easy to access all parts of the wine region from this location. And if you're lucky enough to stay for a home cooked dinner you're in for a real treat! SuzanneandJ 11 août 2011 via Tripadvisor How can we add to all the rave reviews about this beautiful B&B? TripAdvisor needs to add another category…let’s call it ‘Six Stars’…or ‘Above and Beyond All Others. We stayed at Beau Sejour in early July, and we simply loved it. Best of all were our hosts, Maureen and Jon, who could not have been more warm and gracious in sharing their lovely home and their passion for the region, Entre Deux Mers. Our room was large, comfortable, elegantly appointed, and absolutely spotless. The breakfasts were fresh and generous, and it was delightful to meet other guests and share lively conversations around the breakfast table. Each afternoon, we enjoyed a glass of local wine and a homemade treat in the salon. We did not dine at Beau Sejour, because we stick pretty much to vegetarian fare, but after tasting Maureen’s wonderful apple clafoutis—and after hearing others rave about the evening meal—the next time we visit, we may just come and partake of the vegetarian options and dessert! Yes, I said ‘next time.’ We definitely look forward to returning to Beau-Sejour in the future. Seriously, we have stayed in Relais & Chateaux hotels that were not quite up to this high standard. jonlop 10 août 2011 via Tripadvisor My wife and I stayed in the Squirrel Room for 2 nights, a lovely character filled room in a beautiful country house. Maureen and Jon were nothing but perfect hosts, very genuine and friendly with plenty of advice and a generous welcome and outlook. We arrived later than anticipated however they went out of their way to accomodate us. We also took up their offer of dinner which was a fantastic meal of cheese souffle, coq au vin, and chocolate torte, along with wine and coffee.. a lovely evening shared with the other guests who were also relaxed and felt right at home. In short, a beautiful stay in a lovely region. Very ample breakfast too. Houston51 7 août 2011 via Tripadvisor We spent 2 nights in early July and were treated to a marvelous 5 course meal prepared by Maureen and shared with the other guests. It was a great evening and a great introduction to Beau Sejour. Jon and Maureen were great hosts with attention to every detail and excellent advice on touring the area. We will return at the first opportunity and will share the experience with our friends. JulieL2011 1 août 2011 via Tripadvisor This is the best B&B that we have ever stayed at and we have stayed at alot of B&Bs in different countries. Maureen and Jon are very attentive hosts with great attention to detail. They gave us the feeling that they were welcoming us into their home. Maureen and Jon are very knowledgeable about the area and are very enthusiastic about providing advice, directions and other help for sightseeing. The breakfasts and dinner that we had during our stay were home made and fantastic. The bed and breakfast has been beautifully restored. We loved the unique character of the rooms. The furnishings, linens and other details are of very high quality and it was very comfortable. We would highly recommend staying at Beau Sejour and we hope to return sometime soon ourselves. JohnEastman 25 juillet 2011 via Tripadvisor This beautiful country chateau is certainly the loveliest and most inviting bed and breakfast my family and I have ever stayed at. We had 4 or 5 full days of bliss with large clean rooms, comfy beds, new gorgeous bathrooms, expansive lawns with trees and hedges (our child's delight), stone walls, a huge great room decorated with antiques, high ceilings, old armoires, charming shuttered windows, freshest country breakfasts, and Maureen & Jon's genuine hospitality. Maureen has a gift for guiding us poor travelers, dispensing advice and helping our demanding group to feel calm and pampered. The dinner she prepared for the six of us one night was a culinary masterpiece...thick slices of roasted duck breast, superb country vegetables...it was amazing. With nearby walking trails, horseback riding, biking, vineyards everywhere, Beau Sejour got five gold stars. SGR622 21 juillet 2011 via Tripadvisor Maureen and Jon were the consummate hosts of their lovingly restored home. Our room was huge, and the bathroom was contemporary with a glass shower, sink, and tons of storage. I could have stayed for weeks!!! While we were there, Maureen displayed her fabulous culinary skills by making an extraordinary dinner on one evening and fresh biscuits and bread every morning. What a treat! Maureen and Jon took the time to make thoughtful suggestions on restaurants and activities and gave us directions to all of them. We enjoyed evening happy hours with other guests. My husband's only disappointment was that internet service was a bit spotty (frankly, I think that when you're in Bordeaux you might consider separating yourself from your iPad but....) jonesblmm 10 juillet 2011 via Tripadvisor Beau Sejour had been recommended to us by friends and we were not disappointed. Maureen was so helpful and patient as we arrived late due to getting lost and taking the "scenic route". She warmly welcomed us and had a glass of wine waiting for each of us. We stayed in the cottage attached to the main house. It was perfect for sharing with another couple that we were traveling with and gave us access to our private yard. We were able to enjoy star gazing from the back yard each night and then awaken to a lovely breakfast. The dinner that Maureen made was fabulous! I wish I had more right now of her "more-ish" appetizer. We enjoyed seeing all the vineyards and towns around the area, but the highlight was definitely getting back to our little hideaway at Beau Sejour. LievenDePauw 10 juillet 2011 via Tripadvisor Staying with Jon and Maureen doesn't feel like being at home... it feels better than that. Wonderful setting, great cooking and two amicable hosts, what more can you ask for? The ideal place to stay if you want to explore the region. garrisc 9 juillet 2011 via Tripadvisor Our recent visit to Beau Séjour was a delight, ‘a little bit of heaven!’ Jon and Maureen are the perfect hosts, very welcoming and helpful. The accommodations are excellent, very comfortable, well furnished and immaculately clean. We were greeted each morning with a delicious breakfast buffet including homemade breads and jams in the very inviting dining area. In addition, in the evening we enjoyed an equally delicious meal and enjoyed visiting with the other guests. We were so pleased with our time spent at Beau Séjour we have already booked our next visit! Merci Maureen and Jon!! Towan 7 juillet 2011 via Tripadvisor Maureen and Jon have done a wonderful job in renovating their B&B. Beau Sejour is located close to Bordeaux and the wonderful wine regions of St Emilien and Pommerol. the rooms are good sized and very well furnished. Maureen's breakfast always has a fresh breakfast "cake", cheese, meats, yoguryts and all the fixings. She also cooks dinner several nights a week and dinner was great and very reasonably priced for a very good meal (aperitif, first course, main course and dessert with as much wine as you want). All in all, a great stay. cherylrouse 2 juillet 2011 via Tripadvisor We spent 3 nights at Beau Sejour during our personal 'Tour de France'. We were absolutley delighted to stay in such a beautifully, sympathetically renovated home - with all the mod cons! To have an early evening picnic under the trees in the garden ( with wine from Jon), listening to the birds was just idyllic.Maureen and Jon are excellent hosts and go 101% of the way to ensure you get the most out of your stay in the area,( excellent directions/maps/suggestions etc). The location is excellent for visiting the Bordeaux / Berjerac region - if you want to know anything about wine - ask Jon. Maureen & Jon don't offer meals every evening but when they do, make sure you eat there - Maureen is an excellent cook. There was a delightful mix of visitors from all over the world when we stayed and although occasionally there were some language difficulties, Maureen & Jon were on hand to interpret.  Beau Sejour was the highlight of our holiday. ex-NYCerSeattle 30 juin 2011 via Tripadvisor We stayed for 3 nights and wish it could have been longer! Maureen and Jon are the most gracious hosts and when we left we were saying au revoir to friends. Beau Sejour is a beautiful old home, expertly redone, and no detail is missed. Maureen is an excellent chef and we enjoyed two dinners there as well as breakfast each morning. They are experts on what to do in the area and helpful in making all needed arrangements. We stay in bed and breakfasts everywhere we travel, and Beau Sejour is one of the best! Singingbear 13 juin 2011 via Tripadvisor  The hosts, Maureen and Jon, did everything possible to make our stay comfortable. They were able to suggest ideas for hiking, bicycling and horseback riding (through the vineyards of Bordeaux...outstanding). The food was exceptional and the rooms beautiful and quiet. The cost was not nearly what I would have expected for such wonderful accomodations and service. Anglesey2 5 juin 2011 via Tripadvisor    We spent two nights at Beau Sejour and this was the most wonderful start to our holiday. Jon and Maureen are excellent hosts; attentive, helpful and ever gracious. We were given an extremely warm welcome and no sooner had we arrived than we were sipping wine in the sunshine.  They love and are very knowlegeable about the surrounding area. Nothing was too much trouble for them and they provided us with all the maps and tourist information we needed and their advice about places of interest was invaluable. Maureen is a superb cook and we enjoyed our meals immensely. It was also very enjoyable to be joined for dinner by other guests and also our hosts: most convivial. Breakfast, which was inclusive, was far more interesting than standard continental: delicious homemade muesli, fresh fruit, cold meats, smoked salmon, cheese and also freshly baked cakes and scones. We stayed in the Chambe Rouge, which we would recommend, and our room was spacious, immaculate and stylishly decorated. The whole house has an elegant, relaxed ambience and you could do no better than to spend time at this chambre d'hote. We are already looking forward to a return visit! NicoleFarough 27 mai 2011 via Tripadvisor   The biggest difference between a good B&B and a truly great one is the hosts...nothing could be more true about Chambres d'hotes: Beau Sejour. Jon and Maureen welcomed my husband and I into their beautiful home like long-time friends. Every morning we awoke not only to find a delicious breakfast spread (homemade poached pears and homemade kiwi preserves were amongst my favourites) but also maps, directions and personal recommendations from Maureen and Jon themsleves to make our visit to this incredible wine region the best possible. And if you have the chance to stay in for dinner during your stay, you'll enjoy a wonderfully prepared meal which could easily match any you'd find at the local restaurants with the added benefit of being only steps from your room! Warm and easygoing with an incredible eye for detail and very knowledgable of the local area and its wines, guests at Beau Sejour will not be disappointed by these gracious hosts and their lovingly appointed home.   Astuce pour la chambre : Guests will be delighted with Chambre Rouge. Italyfan 21 mai 2011 via Tripadvisor   Loathe to say too much in case the place is constantly booked up. The hosts could not be more welcoming and organised, advising on places to eat, visit etc. Lovely garden and beautiful well-kept house. Being a chambre d'hotes you eat with your co-guests but that makes it even more enjoyable. We will definitely be back! Great location, only 20 minutes from St. Emilion - also worth a visit - and half an hour to Bordeaux. The spacious, yet homely, bedrooms are wonderful with great views over the garden and countryside. Nice modern bathrooms yet in keeping with the style of the old house. Josiephine 19 mai 2011 via Tripadvisor   We stayed at Beau Sejour for 3 nights in April and had a wonderful stay. The bedrooms are beautifully appointed and spacious. The large terrace is wonderful to sit for afternoon tea and also for an evening glass of wine.Beau Sejour is situated in a quiet position and Maureen's home cooking is delicious and beautifully presented.Jon and Maureen are the perfect hosts and their knowledge of the region allows you the opportunity to visit the key attractions. We have stayed in many places over the years and rate Beau Sejour very highly,so much so we returned in May. Josie and Graham English tjmdsm 13 mai 2011 via Tripadvisor   We went to France for two weeks and stayed at hotels and B&B. This was the best. Amazing hospitality, graciousness, breakfast, providing great dinner suggestions, etc. Maureen and Jon were the most gracious of host, charming, entertaining, helpful, etc. The rooms were spectacular. Clean modern high comfort, and more. When I come back to Bordeaux I will stay here definitely. I tried to stay for 5 nights but they were full on the 4th night. Maureen got us into another B&B to help us through the last 2 nights. That is just how she is accommodating, thoughtful, helpful. She is an amazing cook and has great idea of where to go for dinner. lynnauburn 27 avril 2011 via Tripadvisor   My husband and I began our week-long trip to the southwest of France with a 2-day stop with Maureen and Jon, thanks to the many reviews here on Trip Advisor. I was nervous about booking online but my nerves were immediately calmed upon meeting our two hosts! The B&B is beautiful, clean, comfortable and just perfect for your trip to France! They greeted us after a long overseas flight with tea and cake on the terrace, they arranged the most spectacular dinners and breakfasts and gave us great advice on where to park for St. Emillion and where to go. They are living their dream to run the fabulous Chambre d"hote and in the process fulfilled our dream of a fabulous vacation....our best ever. Thanks Maureen and Jon......we loved it and will keep in touch!! Astuce pour la chambre : Loved the Chambre Sud but all are nice. CanadianTraveller23 27 avril 2011 via Tripadvisor   After reading all of the wonderful reviews on trip advisor we decided to make a detour on our trip and stay with Maureen and Jon. It turned out to be a great decision. Beau Sejour was a highlight of the trip. Maureen and Jon were outstanding hosts who went out of their way to make our first trip to France memorable. We were treated like royalty. We felt very welcome, the food was delicious, and our room was adorable. We particularly enjoyed the towel warmer in our bathroom! We enjoyed good conversation with our hosts over numerous glasses of wine. They shared interesting information about wine production and the region. They even pointed out a Chateau from which we enjoyed a bottle (or two) of wine the night before. Scotthart 21 avril 2011 via Tripadvisor  We were welcomed like lost souls by Maureen & Jon - as if we'd been travelling for months! The entire chambre d'hotes was impeccably clean and well-maintained, with beautifully furnished rooms throughout. The Stratford's service was second to none and we always felt as if we were their most important guests! Maureen's cooking was excellent - the breakfasts, and our dinner on the first night were delicious. Their suggestions were also brilliant - horse-riding, restaurants etc. We would come back to stay at this wonderful residence at the drop of a hat.  Heathert34 17 mars 2011 via Tripadvisor Thanks again to the other trip advisor posters who raved about Beau Sejour. Our visit this month was WONDERFUL! Maureen and Jon are like old friends from the moment you meet them. Their house is beautiful, I felt privledged to be able to stay in such a grand home with such history. Jon was a great host and was gracious to take the time to share with me the detail of the home and took the time to show me how some of the renovations take place - the work is amazing to produce the quality product they have to offer. Our room was huge, facing the front of the property and the church just beyong we felt like we were in our own hamlet. The bed was very comfortable and large. The modern bathroom had an amazing full size shower which was refreshing each morning. You can decide how much privacy you want when visit Beau Sejour - enjoy your room with plenty of room or come down to the common area and share time with others, you can also relax on the patio in the late afternoon and enjoy a glass of wine and tasty homemade honey cake. Be sure to book at least one evening of Dinner at Beau Sejour. Maureen makes a very tasty meal that you should not miss. Speaking of her cooking, make sure to try the homemade kiwi jam.  Maureen shops at the local market weekley - I was lucky to be able to accompany her during my visit and it was lovely to see how all of the vendors stopped her to say hello and catch up on local news. How nice of her to include me to her visit to the market. Don't miss this place - Its lovely. Sit by the crackling fire, pet the house dogs, share a glass of wine with Maureen and Jon and have the most wonderful time in a wonderful place.  Jon and Maureen go out of their way to accomodate your every need. When Jon found out that my husband and I drink coke in the morning rather than coffee, he rode down to the market on his bike to ensure that we had sodas in the morning. The story about what happened to the bottle on his way back up the hill is something you can ask him about during your visit. Candice 6 février 2011 via Tripadvisor I am so glad that I looked at the reviews before making decision and I have to say I made the right choice by choosing Beau Sejour over the other B&B we shortlisted. After changing my mind several times, I decided to dig into the Tripadvisor reviews of both places. I was very surprised when I saw Beau Sejour yield 100% good or excellent comments. Without further hesitation, I decided to go with them. Throughout the entire process from inquiry to arrival to the entire stay and to departure, everything was impeccable. The house and the room were shown as is in the pictures. The place is spacious, clean and lovely. The hosts Maureen and Jon were friendly, helpful and took care of us during our stay. Before we arrived, they responded all our emails promptly and gave us a lot of useful advice. When we got there, they helped us make dinner reservations at a nice restaurant nearby, made phone calls to the tourism office about opening hours of vineyards etc. Our train back to Paris was early, so we offered to skip breakfast but Maureen and Jon didn't mind and got up at 5am to fix us breakfast after fixing us a delicious dinner on the second night. We were so happy that they accommodated us this far. They were truly exceptional and hospitable. We would definitely love to come back some other time and recommend this fine place to everyone! 2_SC_travellers 4 février 2011 via Tripadvisor We unfortunately had just one night driving thru the St Emilion area when we stayed with Maureen and Jon. We were jet lagged and exhausted from on overnight flight. We received a very warm welcome and happily accepted their kind offer of a late afternoon snack. Later, we enjoyed a glass of wine with our hosts, and then a wonderful dinner with them. Our room was large and beautifully furnished, and had a very comfortable bed . We had another great meal for breakfast the next morning before we headed out. And Maureen sent us off with more slices of her delicious chocolate cake that we had enjoyed so much the night before. All in all a wonderful stay. We would love to go back (for a longer stay next time). Rated number 1 of over 260 B&B's in the Gironde by Tripadvisor Christi P 7 janvier 2012 via Tripadvisor We spent three nights at Beau Sejour last spring, and I have been meaning to write a review lo these many months. I have nothing but great things to say about Jon, Maureen, and their lovely home. As it was our first time in the area, Maureen spent a good chunk of time helping us figure out how to organize our days, from wine tasting and dinner recommendations to kid activities. Meanwhile, Jon managed to locate a ball somewhere in deep storage so that our space-starved girls could run around and play soccer in the yard. Heaven. In addition to exceptional hosts, we enjoyed delicious food (almond cake!) and a charming room with modern amenities. I will continue to recommend Beau Sejour to friends and look forward to when we might someday return! Sarah L 30 décembrer 2011 via Tripadvisor My partner and I had an excellent stay with Maureen and Jon whilst visiting Saint-Emilion, France. Maureen and Jon were both very warm and welcoming from the moment we arrived. The rooms are lovely and the house has been beautifully renovated, including a modern bathroom and very comfortable bed, in a peaceful surround. We would have been satisfied with all of this alone, but were also very happy with the decision we had made to join Maureen and Jon for dinner. Maureen proved to be an outstanding chef and the food was superb! This was nicely complemented with Jon's humour and excellent knowledge of the area. The food was matched nicely with some excellent wine from the local area; all in all proving to be a great evening. We highly recommend you take them up on dinner during your stay. Thanks to their beautiful home, wonderful food and warm hospitality Beau Sejour was without a doubt the best guest house we visited during our travels in France! Josette N 28 décembrer 2011 via Tripadvisor  Just had to write to share the news of this great place to stay nestled in the vineyards close to St Emilion. Wonderful food, exceptional hosts and beautiful accomodation full of character - in a beautifully restored French home.
