There is a lot of space at Beau Séjour and guests are encouraged to feel at home in the grand salon, which is about 70m², or in the large garden.  Sometimes a bed and breakfast or a guest house is a little impersonal, we try our best to make sure that our B&B is not, in fact quite the reverse.   We enjoy taking time to explain visits, be it to Saint Emilion or to Bordeaux or to the markets, or to our favourite producers in the markets or at local farms.  Each day there is a market nearby and on most days a choice of markets.  For example there is a small market in Saint Emilion on a Sunday and also a large market on the same day at Libourne close to Saint Emilion.  The Entre deux Mers is an area rich in markets, with markets in Branne, Rauzan, Sauveterre la Guyenne, Creon, Targon and Castillon la Bataille, all within easy reach.  There are food and general markets in Bordeaux as well as a ‘flea market’ and a special biologique (organic) market in Bordeaux on a Saturday.  We do not have a swimming pool at our bed and breakfast so the garden is a place of quiet to relax in and enjoy the wildlife.  You can see red squirrels here all year round, whether they are rushing about gathering or searching for nuts or just rushing about.  Sometimes there are deer in the garden. There is a wonderful assortment of birds, perhaps the most spectacular are the hoopoes, which can be seen in early summer feeding their young in the garden.  There are many birds of prey around and there have been sparrowhawks nesting in the wood nearby. The woodpeckers are more often heard than seen. There are wonderful abbeys at La Sauve and Blasimon, both less than 15 minutes from our B&B by car along the lanes.  In Saint Emilion there are many magnificent churches, the Eglise Monolithe, the Tour du Roy, the collegiate church.  There are also many wonderful churches and monuments in Bordeaux. There is great exercise to be had, perhaps walking in the lanes or cycling, whether on the cycle track nearby or the quiet lanes.  Cycles can be left here safely.  Cycles can be hired in Creon at the old railway station which is now a centre for the cycle path which uses a disussed railway line.  There are many wonderful walks, especially around Saint Emilion.  Horse riding in the vineyards is a pleasure for the young and not so young.  Wine tastings are a great pleasure and we are constantly pleased at the time our neighbours spend on explaining the art and science of winemaking.  We can arrange wine tastings for French, Spanish and English speaking guests. We have found that many French people speak much better English than they think.  Around our dinner table there are often several nationalities and sometimes conversations in three languages, so it is a good opportunity for the French or Spanish to practice their English or another language and likewise for the English to practice their French.  So come to our bed and breakfast, close to Saint Emilion and Bordeaux, to practice your French or English conversation with a glass of wine in your hand! Our bed and breakfast is ideally situated close to Bordeaux and the vineyards of Saint Emilion, Pomerol, Sauternes, the Entre deux Mers, the Medoc and Castillon.   The medieval city of Saint Emilion is 15 minutes by car, the historic cities of Bordeaux, Castillon and Bergerac are also only a short distance.  The coastal towns of Arcachon, Gujan Mestras, for oysters straight from the sea, and the Dune du Pyla are within reach. The fortified (bastide) towns of the Gironde are fascinating to visit especially on market days, to sit outside a café and absorb the atmosphere with a glass of wine or a cup of coffee or tea is wonderful exercise!
